Buena Vista Township will hold their Independence Day Celebration at Michael Debbi Park in Richland on Sunday, July 5, 2015. The event features exhibition baseball games, a parade, a flag raising, car show, local food vendors, crafts, raffles, civic organization exhibits, live music, a talent contest, fireworks and lots of county fair like games and contests for the kids.
The parade that starts at 2:00 p.m. features local fire trucks and EMS vehicles. It begins on the beach at Collings Lakes, winds through town and ends up at the park to kick off the celebration.
The flag raising at 3:00 begins the festivities at the park. The car show will feature trophies and a people’s choice award. The county fair games and contest include sack races, water barrel fights, a watermelon eating contest, horseshoes, bocce ball and three legged races. Local food vendors like the Richland Deli, The Rail and Casazza Foods will supply treats like sausage and peppers, corn on the cob, funnel cakes, hot dogs, candied apples, popcorn and pizza.
Vendors and crafters are also invited to come and set up displays for a very reasonable $20.00 entrance fee. Talent contestants can come and compete for a $100.00 grand prize in Buena Vista’s Got Talent competition. The VFW Post #158 will be holding a raffle and the proceeds from the car show will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Music will be provided by DJ Nicky G.
The fireworks display will be staged at dusk and will bring this big day for the community to a close. In the event of rain, the township will delay the celebration to July 12th. Admission to the park is free and everyone is invited.
