Jazzfest in Madison in June
This unique event is celebrating its 32nd birthday this year. Jazzfest is a barbeque, a picnic, a craft show, and a summer jazz festival all in one. It’s held on the campus of Drew University in Madison New Jersey. The event starts off with a free concert on Friday, June 5th and continues with a full day of concerts on three different stages on Saturday, June 6th.
On Friday night the “Stars of Tomorrow” Concert highlights performances by the top high school jazz bands in New Jersey. The Saturday concerts feature performances by: Curtis Stigers, The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, The Houston Person Quartet, Trio da Paz, Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks, The Allan Vaché Benny Goodman Tribute Big Band and The Rio Clemente Trio with Laura Hull.
Visitors can pack their own picnic or enjoy a good old fashioned southern barbeque. Vendors will feature a wide range of merchandise from crafts like jewelry and wearable art to hard to find jazz music on compact disc and vintage vinyl. Advanced tickets are available for $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non members, with regular day of purchase [at the gate] tickets available for $55.00 for members and $65.00 for non members. Children under 16 years of age are admitted for free. Parking is free and it is easy to access public transportation from the campus.
Jazzfest is staged annually by the New Jersey Jazz Society. The primary sponsor is Sanofi-aventis.
